"Pseudoscience" is claims presented with NO supporting evidence or plausibility and "passed" as scientific proof. It LOOKS like Science;it SOUNDS like Science; IT IS NOT SCIENCE! True Science can be tested, measured and observed; it can be rejected or confirmed!
Examples of Pseudoscience :Astrology, Horoscopes,channeling, U.F.O.'S, Psychic "Hot lines" and "detectives", Bermuda Triangle, Faith Healing, Voodoo Magical thinking and CULTS.
In fact, only 1% of our Congress has a Science background and they handle scientific issues all the time! Explain them and pass Laws about them for ALL of us. Some did have a Science Background: Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, President Carter in Physics, and Margaret Thatcher PM of England in Chemistry!
WHY DO WE PREFER "FABLES" TO TRUE SCIENCE??????
Mainly, because the Scientific Method is seen as BORING and not
ECONOMICALLY LUCRATIVE! 95% of Americans are scientifically
illiterate! They WANT to believe in magical thinking...I can sure understand that..."real" life is repetitive & dull much of the time.
CULTS/GANGS
A cult is a loose form of religious organization, isolated from society,concerned ONLY with their OWN beliefs with a strong,
Charismatic leader. It "uses" distorted religion for their own purpose.
U.F.O. CULTS: Combine Religion AND Science to gain as many members as possible and attracts "searchers of the truth".
MILLENIUM CULTS: Usually spring up around the start of a new Century and can become "Doomesday Cults" and suicidal.
WHY JOIN THEM? For a pretty solid reason that most humans need:
(1)To feel you belong to something "special" and very "important".
Gives you a sense of identity(including nicknames,etc)
(2)It is almost a total Guidebook for Behavior...others can think FOR you! Strict rules and obedience required. You don't have to think much and disagree less...Questioning it is NOT encouraged.
Ancient Romans called both Judaism and Christianity a CULT....because of their FEAR they would take over the Empire and they would lose their power.
SIX WARNING SIGNS OF A CULT
#1.) "TIME" is made to disappear...only PRESENT is important.
#2) Isolates you from family members or "non-believers".
#3)Get you to "lose" your former identity" by role-playing.
#4)You are to forget all previous LEARNING & VALUES.
#5)Drugs may be used to influence thinking & cloud judgement.
(UFO & Millenium Cults forbid drugs so they are "clean")
#6)No fear of DEATH... Yours OR others!
There are others but these are the ones evident in the most cases.
*#2) Some pressure you to get non-believers INTO the group and if you leave it there is no more connection to those still IN it.
#5) depends on the goals of the group....either to "cleanse" you for the eventual spaceship encounter or when used to control you better.(Manson Family)
#6) Some believe in REINCARNATION so there would be NO fear of Death.(This does not pretain to Mainstream Religion such as India has.)
Charles Manson used it so they would kill for him, saying "they" were going to a better place...we are doing them a FAVOR!?
