Birge-Bytes:  I'd better write this fast so you can get it in time!!  DOOMESDAY CULTS spring up again and again at various times. The UFO Cults are usually around the beginning of a new millenium such as 1900, 2000, etc. and combine elements of Science, Religion and mostly "persuasion".

Also, in times of Economic and Culture fears. In fact, most Cults begin because of FEARS. In this particular case, it was a "misunderstanding" of Historical facts.  The MAYAN CALENDAR was
completing its present "cycle" and beginning a new one....like our NEW YEARS celebration of renewal and faulty but meant well...RESOLUTIONS!

Basically, it is our "fringe groups" that buy into these. I taught my students to ALWAYS find out WHO the LEADER IS and their objectives...most of these "leaders," except the outright scammers,
actually BELIEVE what they spew out and can be found to not only lead but GO OUT WITH their followers in death. Abnormal Psych is a fascinating study of the deviant mind-set.
